Hasselblad Masters Finalists 2012 Tour a Resounding Success

28/11/2011 From London to Los Angeles, New York, and Berlin, photographers, students and imaging creatives flocked to studios to shoot with the latest Hasselblad equipment, attend seminars, meet and greet past Masters winners and current Masters finalists and preview a select group of finalists’ images.

Each city had its own flavor, with London’s Hasselblad Studio booked to capacity as attendees shot fashion and still life with H4D cameras. They also had the opportunity to chat with past Masters winners such as Dirk Rees (who is also a current finalist) and Claudio Napolitano.

Los Angeles attendees photographed live models at Siren Studios with lighting provided by broncolor or using the gorgeous floor to ceiling windows as a natural lightbox. An after hours gathering on the rooftop as the sun set, was the perfect closing to an exciting day. To check out the event video, please click here.

In New York, the 2-day Masters Finalists 2012 Tour was part of Shoot-NYC attracting hundreds of people each day. In addition to live model shoots, several still life sets – including one with the 200MS camera – were popular activities (one of the photographers tweeted that he went just to see the special Ferrari Edition in person). When they weren’t busy shooting, attendees spent time viewing the Masters Finalists exhibit of prints. Guests included past Masters winner and current Masters jury member Joao Carlos, along with Masters Andy Ryan, Lois Greenfield and Sara Silver, among others. Ryan’s architectural photography seminar was well-attended as was the late afternoon special forum where a packed room of students gained great advice from Greenfield and Silver.

The event generated a lot of buzz at Berlin’s Delight Studios as well when hundreds of photographers gathered to get some hands-on time with H4D cameras. In addition to a still life multishot setup, live shoots were held with three different models. Of course, photographers and students alike were thrilled to chat with past Masters winners and current finalists. And it was a special treat for participants to see the work of the 2012 finalists.

The Tour was especially meaningful for finalists who were personally greeted and hosted by members of the Hasselblad team. While the Soho Group (a members club for creatives) selected 11 finalists’ images to be printed by Epson and displayed on the Tour, attendees viewed the full complement of finalists’ images on video and were able take home a brochure of 110 images after the event.

All 110 images of the Hasselblad Masters 2012 finalists will be showcased in Beijing on December 9th at the Inter Gallery. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in seminars as well. Arranged by Shriro (HK) Co., Ltd., this will be the final viewing of the Masters 2012 images. The Hasselblad Masters Grand Jury will conclude their voting on November 30th and the winners will be announced on January the 9th 2012, so please keep an eye out for the big announcement in the New Year!
